How SAM works

SAM is a 24/7, 365 days a year telephone based, voice-activated absence recording and reporting service, operated in conjunction with BT, a leading provider of communication and ECKOH, specialists in advanced speech recognition.

It gives employees a dedicated telephone number (local call rate) to use should they need to call in to report an absence.

As well as recording details such as employee name, department and the reason for their absence, SAM instantly generates a notification of the absence in email and/or SMS text message to the relevant people (eg the employee’s line manager and your HR department). Having clear consistent management information is essential if you wish to effectively manage sickness absence.

Capturing sickness absence information by telephone is not new. However the use of an interactive voice recognition system is. This is a far more cost effective approach to recording employee absence than having employees telephone a nurse-based call centre as SAM generates the information you need to concentrate your resources on employees who need them most.
